Are the helicopters easy to fly?

In a nutshell...no. It will take practice to learn how to hover these helicopters especially in confined areas such as your lounge etc... We do offer a range of accessories and resources to facilitate your learning experience though.  If you do master the ability to hover these helicopters then they are lots of fun.  You can take them outside on a windless day, so you have more room to manoeuvre and our 3d helicopter will cope on moderately windy days with out problem.

Have you any tips to help fly them?

Yes.

Use the simulator before flying, make sure you can fly it there before you attempt to fly it for real.

After this (or instead of using the simulator, for whatever reason you may have), you should find a reasonably sized room. I recommend that the room surface should be vinyl, laminate or a hardwood flooring. These floor types are more slidy and hence when the helicopter awns from side to side and scrapes the floor it will not tipple over.  Use the training kit (stabiliser ping pong balls) provided to prevent the helicopter from tipping over and learn to drive the helicopter around the surface of the floor with the training kit attached.  When you can drive it around the floor with out error then you might progress to a 5-10cm hover. The battery will not last as long with the training kit attached as more power is required to lift it.

To try a 5-10cm hover, you should place it in the centre of the room and power up very slowly, you should have the tail facing toward you and this should not move from this position.  If you can't keep it in this position then you are not ready to hover. As you power up the helicopters will awn left and right like a cradle and may scrape the floor as it rises and falls on the cussion of air. It is you task to prevent this cradle action, this will with practice involve slight adjustment using the controls to counteract the awn.

After many hours of this you will eventually be hovering at about 5-10cm without movement, now it's time to go a little higher but watch out for those centre lights.

As you go higher your view of the helicopter (eye level) will change and this again will take hours to be able to control hover at this height as you are not use to the view.

These are the basics.

What age limit do you recommend for the rc helicopters you supply?

Please remember that helicopters are not toys, we recommend that the minimum age for helicopters is 14 years old.  We also advise that supervision be give to children above this age range and below 18.  It is the responsibility of the user to ensure the safety of people and property around them when learning to fly these vehicles.

*The Humblebee helicopter we supply can be used for younger children as this is a very basic model and is classed as a toy.

What are the differences between the rc helicopters?

This would takes ages to put into written words, I advise you look and the pictures and read the specifications.

Try reading this.... RC Helicopter buyer guide.

What if I fly it out of range?

This is not a problem as you will not be able to see it properly to control it before it goes out of range. How do I know? I've tested it by flying it over 100m straight up, I could have done with a parachute to get it back though.

What if the battery runs out?

The helicopter will not drop out of the sky it will just slow down (slowly) and will drift down to the ground.

I'm buying a helicopter for my boyfriend, which one should I get?

I can't get the flight simulator to work, please help.

We have a tutorial for the Jabo helicopter on the website, this is tried and tested many times by many people.  This same tutorial has been used to set up the Dragonfly simulator as well, but I need to do this and add it the website as well.  No 3D simulator set up as yet.  Tru-flite tutorial is not on the website yet I'm afraid, either.  Please note I can not support simulator config over the phone, sorry.

Do you supply spares? Are they expensive? How do I do it?

Yes.  We have full spares stock for Jabo, Dragonfly and HoneyBee2.  We have basic spares for the Aerohawk.

They are not expensive, you can repair your helicopters at very reasonable prices, but these spares are only available to my customers.  Lot's of companies make money on the spares, we don't.

You order the spares using the procedure detailed here...

Spares ordering

Will you be getting any more models?

Yes, and there is a new website to accompany them with large information resources available to customers.

My helicopter moves in a certain direction when I power it up, please help.

TO BE ADDED

My helicopter vibrates violently when I power it up, please help.

You need to loosen the screws that hold the main blades, if the are too tight the helicopter will vibrate violently on start up.  They can be quite loose as the centrifugal forces generated by the blades will straighten them up anyway.

I have decided I can not afford the helicopter I have bought and wish to return it.

As long as this is within 7 days of purchasing the helicopter and you have not opened/used the helicopter this is fine.  You will have a small fee to pay, for postage and credit card fees. This is detailed in the Customer Service section of the website.

What is a 3D helicopter?

It is a collective pitch helicopter that can fly in 3D movements.

Can I fly the rc helicopter outdoors?

Yes you can fly the models outside on a windless day.  The HoneyBee2 can handle a windy environment as it has stiffer blades, more battery power  and a strong rotor head.

I believe I have a fault, please help.

If you believe you have a fault then please use the procedure detailed in the link below...

Fault reporting

Is there warranty on the models?

If your transmitter fails within the first 30 days we will replace it, as long as you haven't dropped it from a height.  We can not provide warranty for the helicopters due to the nature of the products, and you certainly wouldn't get insurance. We are generous with problems and will replace self contained items if they fail too quickly.  Some of example scenarios are detailed in the fault reporting procedure shown above.

I want to speak to someone on the phone, who should I ring?

We only have the office  number but it will be hit and miss to talk to a person.  We come and go all day and have other business commitments, there is not a permanent person available in the office all day.  We are mobile and have laptops and PDA which we carry on ourselves, therefore you can gain a very quick response using email, it is checked regularly everyday throughout the day.
